Who am I

Esmeralda Nadeau-Jasso is an interdisciplinary artist, fabricator, educator, and designer specializing in large-scale public art, kinetic sculpture, mechanical artworks, and interactive installations. Her practice brings together technical fabrication, imaginative storytelling, and a deep sensitivity to place. Known for creating works that invite participation, curiosity, and wonder, Esmeralda designs pieces that are meant to be experienced physically and emotionally by the public.

Her work includes monumental kinetic sculptures, immersive environments, and her fantastical installations, which combine engineering, movement, narrative, and sculptural form. Her work canvases a wide range of destinations, environments, and sites. Reflecting her interest in transforming familiar objects and natural systems into public experiences that feel playful, educational, and meaningful.

Esmeralda leads projects from concept development through fabrication, installation, and public engagement. Her practice is rooted in ecological themes, community connection, and the integration of natural materials such as wood, stone with raw elements such as metal and stained glass. She is especially drawn to the relationship between nature and technology, often using mechanical systems to create artworks that feel alive, responsive, and connected to their environment.Her Purépecha and French heritage emerges through ornamental language and folk-inspired forms, weaving cultural memory into her contemporary sculptural work. 

Throughout her career, Esmeralda has been guided by a commitment to community-based and progressive public work.She runs a maker’s space dedicated to teaching accessible technologies such as laser cutting, digital design, and fabrication, with a focus on empowering people of all ages to transform everyday materials into functional and artistic objects. Her workshops create pathways for creative independence and local economic resilience.

She sees art as a way to create shared moments of connection, encouraging people to gather, interact, and experience their surroundings in new ways. Her vision for connectivity is central to her practice, and she strives to create artwork that is accessible, engaging, and rooted in a sense of a collective imagination.

Esmeralda lives with her family in the Slocan Valley of British Columbia, where the surrounding forests, mountains, and rural community continue to shape her artistic perspective and commitment to sustainability.
